What we engrave

Pick your font

Ordering online? The design studio has its own built in font picker, and you pick your font right in the studio while you design your piece.

Ordering in store? Pick from our set list below when you order, and we will show you the list at the counter.

Not sure which fits? Block reads bold and clean. Script suits names and occasions. Serif suits dates and formal pieces. Tell us what the piece is for and we will point you to a good match.

Your wording: we engrave exactly what is written

Enter your wording exactly as you want it engraved, including spelling, capitals, punctuation and line breaks. Check names and dates carefully before you submit.

We engrave exactly what is written. If it is written that way on your order, that is how it will read on your piece.

Short lines engrave best. Keep each line short and clear. In the online design studio, text allows up to 100 characters and monograms up to 2 characters. Long passages do not suit most items, and small pieces need short wording to stay readable.

Custom artwork

Some pieces take your artwork right in the design studio. Photo coasters, for example, let you upload your photo in the studio before you check out.

For other custom artwork, place your order first, then email your file to hello@rustandrefined.com with your order number. We accept PNG, JPG, PDF or SVG. Vector files or high resolution files give the cleanest result.

Simple, bold artwork engraves best. Fine detail and shading can be lost on small pieces, so if your design is detailed, ask us first and we will tell you honestly how it will come out.

Please only send artwork you own or have permission to use.

Proofs

Standard text orders: no proof is sent. Your piece is engraved exactly as written on your order, so please check it carefully.

Custom artwork orders: we will text you a photo proof before we make your piece. One revision is included. Please check wording, layout, size and placement, and reply to approve it.

Production starts after you approve your proof. A slow reply can move your ready date, so please keep an eye out for our text.

Pricing

Engraving is included in the price of your piece. Leave it plain if you like; the price is the same either way.

One fair exception: the design work takes the same time on a single small piece as it does on a set, so a small minimum applies to the included design work on single pieces like one glass, one coaster or one wine stopper. Coasters are engraved as a set of four. Below the minimum, ask us about a design fee before you order and we will be straight with you about it.

Turnaround and pickup

Most pieces are ready the next business day. Timing can vary by piece and by how full the bench is, so ask us for the details on yours. If you need it by a set date, tell us the date when you order and we will confirm whether we can meet it before we start.

In a rush? Tell us your date before you order. If we can meet it, we will confirm the date and the rush fee before we start. A date is not promised until we confirm it.

Around the holidays, order as early as you can. We do not post cutoff dates, because the bench fills up and we would rather be straight with you about timing.

When your piece is ready, we will call or text you. You can pick it up any time during store hours, Mon to Sat, 11 to 6. We are closed Sundays.

If your order is being shipped, shipping transit time is separate from the time it takes to make your piece.

Changes, mistakes and returns

Need to change something? Contact us as soon as you can at hello@rustandrefined.com or (910) 536-4537, with your order number and the corrected wording. If your piece has not been made yet, we will do our best to update it. Once it is engraved, wording cannot be changed.

Custom and personalized pieces are made one at a time just for you, so there are no returns, exchanges or refunds on custom items.

If we make an error, we will remake your piece. If the error was in the wording you submitted, the piece will match what was submitted, and a remake is charged at full price, so please check it carefully before you order.

Care for your piece

Follow the care line for your item. One cleaning method does not suit every material.

Engraved glassware	Dishwasher safe.
Slate coasters	Rinse or wipe clean. Do not soak.
Leatherette journals and trays	Wipe with a damp cloth.
Other engraved pieces	Follow the care line on your product listing, or ask us in store.

Natural materials can vary a little in grain, texture and color, and engraving can vary with them. That variation is part of a piece made one at a time. Product photos are a guide to the finished look.
